At RDI2, students and researchers are provided with the opportunity to work on nationally important projects with leading edge technologies across disciplines, with other scientists, engineers, and scholars. In addition, there are opportunities for collaboration with other universities, national laboratories, and industry, as well as on international projects.
Students have unique opportunities for research and training in laboratory projects, in seminars, and in prominent lecture series. RDI2 supports 8-10 graduate assistants per year and provides competitive funding for graduate students. Scholarship awards are made based on academic achievement.
Fellowship of Excellence in Computational and Data Science
RDI2's Fellowships for Excellence in Computational and Data Science supports PhD Students and Postdoctoral Associates in all areas of Computational and Data-enabled Science and Engineering (CDSE), with a specific focus on research in Big Data and Extreme Scale computing applications. Second and third year PhD students and/or post-doctoral fellows working on multi-disciplinary collaborative computational/data-enabled research projects that address more than one element of CDSE research are encouraged to apply. Graduate students must be full-time students each semester during the period of their Fellowship.
Each fellowship appointment is for one year and comes with up to one year of salary and tuition as appropriate, with potential for renewal, and includes special allocations on RDI²’s research cyberinfrastructure. Fellow are expected to pursue novel and creative research avenues within existing research programs and faculty expertise in collaboration with an RDI² faculty mentor as part of the RDI² research community.
RDI² offers several paid internships annually to current undergraduate and graduate students. Internships focus on data science research in a multidisciplinary scientific disciplines. RDI² internships provide opportunity for students to work with RDI² mentors to develop skills, enhance their career potential, and make a difference each day in solving global challenges in science and engineering.
The department holds bimonthly Research Roundtable discussions at RDI² to provide students the opportunity to share information about their research, as well as identify areas of mutual interest for future collaboration.
The international reputation of RDI2 attracts distinguished visitors from around the world. The RDI2 program for visiting scholars invites scholars of distinction to engage in post-doctoral research and scholarship, and in general scholarly and cultural interaction with RDI2’s faculty, staff, and students. RDI2 welcomes scholars who wish to collaborate on a specific projects based on current RDI2 programs. Visiting scholars are considered guests of RDI2 who may visit for a temporary period of up to one year (renewable).
