Biography

Dr. Deborah Silver is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. Dr. Silver received her B.S. from the Columbia University School of Engineering and her M.S. and Ph.D. from Princeton University in Computer Science. Her area of research is Scientific Visualization and Computer Graphics and she has taught courses in Computer Graphics, Visualization, Data Structures, Software Engineering and Robotics. She has numerous publications in Visualization and Computer Graphics and has worked on many aspects of visualization. Her research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, NASA, the Department of Energy, and the US Air Force and she is currently involved in a variety of research activities including feature extraction and tracking from 3D time varying simulations, volume graphics, oceanographic visualization, medical visualization, and visualization literacy and education. Prof. Silver has been co-chair of the papers session and program co-chair of the yearly IEEE Visualization conference and was a member of the program committee. She has also been Vice Chair of operations for the IEEE Technical Committee on Computer Graphics (1993-2000), and a member of editorial committee of the IEEE Transaction on Visualization and Computer Graphics (1995-2000). In 2010, Dr. Silver was the Associate Dean of Continuing and Professional Education for the Rutgers School of Engineering. Dr. Silver is currently the Executive Director of the Professional Science Master’s Program (and the new MBS-Master of Business & Science  degree) at Rutgers.

Biography

Ivan Rodero is Associate Director for Technical Operations at Rutgers University. He received an integrated BS and MS degree in 2004 and a PhD degree in February 2009 from Technical University of Catalonia, BarcelonaTech. Before moving to Rutgers, he was permanent researcher at Barcelona Supercomputing Center.

His research interests fall in the broad area of parallel and distributed computing and include high performance computing, energy efficiency, autonomic computing, grid computing, cloud computing, data analytics at extreme scales and cyber-security. His current research activities are in the extremely important area of green computing with a specific focus on energy efficiency and scalable data management and analytics. His research is funded by NSF and DoE and he is PI/Co-PI of various grants and access to HPC cyberinfrastructure. He has published more than 80 papers in peer-reviewed journals, conferences, book chapters and workshops. He also has served in several committees of conferences and workshops, as editor and referee of journals and has organized workshops in the area of Green HPC. He is also consultant at the Open University of Catalonia (UOC) - distance learning University and senior member of IEEE, and member of ACM and AAAS.
